Careers that Work: Our programme to accelerate meaningful career development plans

All too often we can be blindsided when talented people leave for what they think is the greener grass on the other side.

And yet we know from research that lack of career development is either the number one or two reason people leave an employer. We also know that having meaningful work is a key driver of engagement.

Cracking the nut of meaningful career development can be hard when so few people actually know what they want to do next, or have a useful framework to think about this. Given that, after sleeping, work is the biggest time suck of our lives, that’s nuts!

So, we've made it our mission to help your people feel amp’d about their careers at work, and make it easy for them to take the driver’s seat in their development planning.

We take a fresh approach with our Careers that Work programme. It’s based on Design Thinking principles and delivered over four half day workshops, either in person or virtual.

We create a safe, interactive and fun environment in which small groups (8-16 people) deepen their self-awareness, learn new tools, try out new ideas and support each other, as they formulate their development goals and test their plans. They also form stronger peer connections as a happy bi-product.

The outcome is your people getting clear on a career development plan that is right for them with actionable steps.  But it’s more than that. They also come away with career planning skills they can use throughout their working lives.

Who is it for?

It’s for any group of people where engagement, retention or development is a priority. It could be high potential individuals; teams or business units with high attrition; graduates; or even as part of your diversity and inclusion activities.

And we know it doesn't end there. A focus on development that delivers sustainable results needs more than inspired and motivated employees. It needs leaders who are ready and willing to engage in the conversation and actively participate.

“Gave me the opportunity to focus on what matters to me and the confidence to make my own decisions, rather than focusing on how I feel I am perceived by others or following a career path that others (colleagues and society) deem is right for me.”

— Zoe, Hydrogeologist

“I loved how it was broken into small modules and then pulled together. The whole programme made total sense. It was good to look at important things to ourselves and the impact we would like to have and how these relate to our careers both now and going forward.”

— Michael, Programme Manager

“I loved the clear structure and amount of tangible progress we made in each session. I have been to similar courses with personal strengths and values, and this definitely stood out as the most practical and useful way to work through and apply these in a meaningful way. I started off in a complete muddle and this course has helped me put some structure around my thinking and see a clear way forward.”

— Melissa, Planner

“I really enjoyed getting to know my colleagues better and feeling as though we were all in this together” Alison

— Alison, Senior Architect

If retaining people or lifting engagement is a concern then this could be the right programme for you.
